Pittsburgh sociologist to discuss ethics of unimposed order in Shari’a

Mohammed Bamyeh, professor of sociology at the University of Pittsburgh, will speak on the ethics of unimposed order in Shari’a at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Cone University Center, Room 210.

The founding editor of the journal Passages: Journal of Transnational and Transcultural Studies, Bamyeh is the former book series editor of  "World Heritage Studies on Multiculturalism and Transnationalism" and the current co-editor of series "Tracking Globalization." Recent publications include "Anarchy as Order: The History and Future of Civic Humanity," "Of Death and Dominion: The Existential Foundations of Governance" and "Intellectuals and Civil Society in the Middle East."

The Center for Professional and Applied Ethics is sponsoring this talk in conjunction with the Honors College; Department of Global, International and Area Studies; and the Department of Philosophy.
