The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is sponsoring the lunch and learn “Helping Children Develop Strong Ethics and Values” from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 20, in the Popp Martin, Student Union, Room 263.

Heather Ann Thompson, a former UNC Charlotte faculty member, has won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in history for “Blood in the Water: The Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 and its Legacy.” Thompson, currently a professor at the University of Michigan, was a member of the History Department from 1997 to 2009.

University researchers seek faculty/staff members or graduate students between the ages of 21 and 65 to participate in a study on the effects of isometric exercise training on lowering blood pressure. Isometric exercise is a form of strengthening exercise, in this case squeezing a handgrip device.

UNC Charlotte clinical nursing professor Kathleen Jordan is leading grant-funded research to aid medical professionals and social workers who examine and care for children who have been sexually abused.

The 2016-17 Active Learning Expo will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, in the Cone University Center, Room 210.

Campus-wide elections for faculty governance positions are open through 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 18. Faculty members are encouraged to participate, as these positions “are vital to the continuing leadership we faculty members are privileged to exercise on our campus,” wrote Richard Leeman in an email sent to all faculty members.

Electrical power to the Burson Building will be interrupted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 8, for work to install new voltage cabling.

Parking Lot 15, located in front of the Burson Building, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, April 7, to install new electrical equipment as part of the Burson Renovation Project. Construction equipment and personnel will be in the lot; a crane will be in use for the installation and removal of equipment. Exercise caution when approaching construction zones.

UNC Charlotte Continuing Education is offering sessions of Intermediate and Advanced Excel in May, exclusively for faculty and staff members. Space is limited, so prospective participants should register early.

Starting at 8 a.m., Monday, April 24, the Conference, Reservations and Event Services (CRES) Office will accept requests from departments for the 2017-18 academic year. Requests must fall between Aug. 15, 2017, and May 14, 2018.
