UNC Charlotte employees interested in the Janet Royster Memorial Staff Scholarship have until Monday, May 1, to submit an application for fall 2017. This scholarship is designed to help a UNC system employee become more effective in either the applicant’s current position or prepare the applicant for promotion with the UNC system.
Heather Brown, executive director of the Women + Girls Research Alliance, recently learned that a book in which she has a chapter has received two national awards. “The Fat Pedagogy Reader,” edited by Erin Cameron and Constance Russell, has won a 2017 Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award from the American Educational Research Association.
When the fall 2017 semester begins, a hanging tag will not be needed to park on campus. Permits will be required still; however, permission to park will be virtual and verified through license plate recognition (LPR).
LPR works based upon the permit purchased. Parking privileges will be assigned to a vehicle license plate and the purchaser’s 49er ID card.
Repair work to the exterior of Woodward Hall (the section near the Cato College of Education) is underway through Thursday, June 15.

The Veteran Services Office and the Dean of Students Office will host the 2017 Camo Classic, an annual competition to highlight veterans across campus.
This summer, Recreational Services will offer a new learning series called "Swing into Summer" for UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and students who want to stay active while practicing new skills. Online registration is open for golf and tennis lessons and a Couch to 5K program. Classes are fee-based and not for University course credit.
Nathan Comfort, a professor at Johns Hopkins University, will present “In Pursuit of Perfection: Controlling Human Evolution from Eugenics to CRISPR” at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, in the Cone University Center, Room 113.
This luncheon/workshop is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required by Thursday, April 13.
Crowdfund UNC Charlotte allows University students to become leaders and fosters a philanthropic community across campus by providing an online platform that harnesses the power of the community through small gifts to help students, faculty or staff to raise money to fuel their passions, innovations and ideas.
Kevin Bailey, a candidate for the position of vice chancellor for student affairs, will deliver a presentation from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, in Cone University Center, Lucas Room. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, which is open to the campus community.
