UNC Charlotte student Matt Tifft will make his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Kentucky Speedway driving the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry. The car will be bedecked in UNC Charlotte logos and colors.

The 108th North Carolina Nurses Association Convention is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 2, in Concord, and the UNC Charlotte​ School of Nursing and Office of Distance Education​ are platinum cosponsors of ​the ​exhibit hall and mobile app for attendees at this year's event.

Following a significant gift commitment from alumni and longtime UNC Charlotte supporters Nancy and David Hauser, a striking new campus facility for football tailgating and other events makes its debut this fall. Construction on the Hauser Alumni Pavilion was completed in early September. The 8,000-square-foot brick-and-steel structure has enough space to accommodate 700 people.

UNC Charlotte’s retention rates for first-year students have steadily increased during the past five years, and now University leaders look to build upon that success through a special grant from EDUCAUSE.

UNC Charlotte and its Center for the Study of the New South, as part of a partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South, will host the Oct. 6 panel discussion “La Vida Latina: 21st Century Life in Charlotte.” The event will explore Charlotte’s Latina population and the opportunities and challenges Latinas encounter living in the Queen City and the Mid-South.

Childress Klein is donating $2.5 million to UNC Charlotte’s Center for Real Estate, which is being named the Childress Klein Center for Real Estate. The gift will fund a new endowed professorship, master’s student professional training programs and faculty fellowships related to research on real estate and urban economics topics.

The Dean of Students Office is seeking two student speakers and two bell ringers for UNC Charlotte’s December commencement ceremonies. Faculty and staff are requested to encourage students graduating in December to apply for one of these prestigious honors.

The unveiling of the inaugural Silent Witness display will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, in the Student Union Rotunda. Using life-size figures, Silent Witness enables individuals to visualize victims of domestic violence.

Every September National Recovery Month is observed to educate Americans that with treatment those with a mental or substance use disorder can live a healthy and rewarding life. Recovery Month celebrates the progress made by those in recovery.

Kimberly Marlowe Hartnett, author of “Carolina Israelite: How Harry Golden Made Us Care About Jews, the South and Civil Rights,” will speak at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the Atkins Library Halton Reading Room.

Susan DeVore, a UNC Charlotte alumna and trustee, is among the inaugural group of “Influential Leaders” named by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the global accrediting body and membership association for business schools.
