Jason Edgecombe ’99, a Linux administrator with OneIT, died Aug. 16. A veteran employee with more than 20 years of service, Edgecombe joined the University after completing a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Prior to his tenure with Mosaic in the Lee College of Engineering, Edgecombe served as the Linux administrator with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the web developer and Linux administrator for the Office of the Dean, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Michael Carlin, vice chancellor for OneIT and University CIO, stated, “Jason was a valued colleague and friend who will be greatly missed. He was a genuinely nice person who cared about others and was always willing to help anyone. An incredibly knowledgeable Linux Administrator, Jason had a passion for his work and for the entire Linux community on campus. He didn’t hesitate to share his knowledge and expertise.”
For the past 10 years, Edgecombe had served as the staff adviser for the student organization, The Guild: UNC Charlotte Science Fiction and Fantasy Club.
