Cass Ferguson, associate athletic director of facilities and events, has a long history at UNC Charlotte. Learn more about how he and his team contribute to the University, his most rewarding experiences in athletics and why he goes by “Cass.”

How long have you been at UNC Charlotte?

I went to Charlotte between 2003 and 2007 and received my bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in American studies. I later became the head manager of the men’s basketball team from 2009 to 2014. After leaving for a time, I came back in December 2018 as the associate athletic director of facilities and events.

Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte

My team and I are responsible for the daily operations of all athletic facilities including the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center. We are responsible for running all events in our facilities including commencement. I’m also in charge of capital projects involving athletics.

What’s one of the most rewarding experiences you’ve had working with Charlotte 49er Athletics?

The start of Charlotte’s football team was very rewarding due to the teamwork on campus that was involved. My favorite moment as a student in my freshman and sophomore years was our men’s basketball NCAA tournament appearances.

What are you looking forward to the most in fall 2023

I’m looking forward to joining the American Athletic Conference and having the opportunity to showcase our program. I’m excited for the University to have a wider audience as well as restarting our rivalry with Eastern Carolina University.

What do you love about UNC Charlotte?

I love being in the largest city in the state and one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. When I’m on campus, it has a tight-knit feel.

What do you like to do when you aren't working?

I am a big history buff and like to read, especially presidential and colonial history.

What's a fun fact about you many people may not know?

Cass is my middle name and not short for anything. It was my mom’s maiden name.
