As executive associate athletics director, Ragean Hill is responsible for ensuring our student-athletes have a world class experience while at Charlotte. She supervises multiple sports, oversees different department trainings, is a deputy Title IX coordinator, facilitates the division’s DEI efforts and oversees the Niner Varsity Club, which is the student-athlete alumni program.
Hill was recently selected for the NCAA 2023-24 Pathway Program, a yearlong initiative designed to prepare senior-level athletics administrators for their next career step as directors of athletics or conference commissioners. The program is designed to help develop skills in strategic planning, fundraising, message articulation, DEI, organizational leadership, hiring processes and engagement with search firms. Hill was also selected for the UNC System’s Executive Leadership Institute, a 10-month program designed to build the next generation of leaders from within the UNC System.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is pouring into our student-athletes, young staff members, interns, etc. I love seeing our student-athletes graduate, get jobs and/or pursue their sport professionally. I also love interacting and assisting our campus community.
What does it mean to you to participate in the NCAA Pathway Program and the UNC System's Executive Leadership Institute?
First, I want to thank Chancellor Gaber and Mike Hill for nominating me for each program.
The NCAA Pathway Program primarily focuses on athletic administration and leadership, while UNC System's Executive Leadership Institute is designed to foster collaboration and partnerships among participants and their institutions.
Both of these programs will give me insight to better leadership practices that will help me not only now but when I reach my ultimate goal of being an athletic director. Every individual in each program is so dynamic and I'm excited to learn and grow with them this year.
What are three words to describe UNC Charlotte?
Three words to describe UNC Charlotte are limitless, progressive and family.
What is a fun fact about you that most people don't know?
I worked at Walt Disney World right out of college.
