Meet Derik Screen, IT business intelligence analyst. He likes solving problems, on and off the clock. Learn about Screen’s role, some surprising facts and what he and his family do together.
Can you describe your role at UNC Charlotte?
I am an IT business intelligence analyst. I work with the financial systems support organization, and I support the financial services administration’s reporting and data analytics efforts through creating and managing reporting for users of Banner Finance data.
What do you enjoy about your position?
I get to be impactful by solving problems and creating solutions. I love my team and get to work with good people all across campus.
What’s something people may not know about your role in OneIT that may surprise them?
My primary role is to support the financial services organization. However, I also support all internal/external consumers of Banner Finance data with custom reporting through Webfocus.
Where did you go to school?
I got my bachelor’s degree in science at the Virginia Military Institute and my master’s degree at the University of Phoenix.
What do you like to do when you aren't working?
I definitely enjoy eating and working out. I also enjoy Web3 and blockchain, which is essentially about creating a better internet and giving power back to users through ownership.
What's a fun fact about you many people may not know?
Believe it or not, I minored in the Japanese language in college.
In addition to the Charlotte 49ers, who are your favorite sports teams?
Definitely love my Niners athletics and my alma mater Virginia Military Institute. I am a home team fan of the Panthers, Hornets and Charlotte FC!
Tell us a little bit about your family.
I’ve been married for 12 years to my wife, Katrina, and I have three boys ages 17, 11 and 8. We are very active in sports and fitness and are always involved in the Charlotte/Lake Norman community. We love the beach, enjoy trying new restaurants and attending jazz concerts. Katrina owns a real estate concierge service and home organization business. We also buy and sell homes.
