Carl DuPont, assistant professor of voice, will participate in the Young Artists Program at Glimmerglass Festival this summer. Founded in 1975, Glimmerglass Festival is a highly regarded summer opera and musical theatre festival in Cooperstown, New York.
The Young Artists Program was founded in 1988 to provide training and experience for talented artists in the early stages of their professional career; admission is by audition.
During the three-month apprenticeship, young artists receive musical coaching, attend classes in diction and acting and are given instruction in such skills as audition techniques, role preparation and the business aspects of managing a career. They also perform and cover principal roles for mainstage productions and have the opportunity to sing in concerts and The Lounge series. Young artists study with an acclaimed artist-in-residence each summer; American tenor William Burden is this year’s artist-in-residence.
In addition to singing in the Glimmerglass ensemble, DuPont will sing the role of Armando in Donizetti's “The Siege of Calais” (July 16 – Aug. 19) and will cover two roles: Ariodate in Handel's “Xerxes” (July 15 – Aug. 18) and the undertaker in Gershwin's “Porgy & Bess” (July 7 – Aug. 21).
