Brown to talk 'Conflict in the South China Sea' for Great Decisions

Cheryl Brown, associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, will discuss “Conflict in the South China Sea” as the fourth speaker in the 2017 Great Decisions lecture series. This free, public presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Charlotte International House in Plaza Midwood. This will be a special joint program with YP@IH, the young professional group at International House.

Brown teaches a variety of courses for the Political Science and Public Administration Department, including “Chinese Politics.” Her research interests include China’s personal data privacy and tort reform; technology, ethics and culture; and Big Data governance and privacy. She has focused recently on the legal, social and ethical implications of deep-sea mining, one of the issues currently impacting the South China Sea.

The Office of International Programs coordinates the annual Great Decisions lecture series for the Charlotte community each winter to discuss foreign policy issues selected as pressing by the Foreign Policy Association. The series is coordinated in collaboration with Charlotte Country Day School and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte.
