Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) Director Johan Enslin will be leaving UNC Charlotte on Oct. 1 to take a position at Clemson University.

“The William States Lee College of Engineering has been very fortunate to have Dr. Enslin’s extensive industry and university experience leading our EPIC initiative,” said Bob Johnson, dean of the William States Lee College of Engineering.

Under his leadership, EPIC has emerged as a national leader in energy education and research, Johnson said.

“He has established many partnerships with industry, and EPIC has become a successful model of university-industry collaboration,” he added.

Dhiaa Jamil, chairman of the EPIC advisory board and secretary of the University’s Board of Trustees, said Enslin will play a central role in building Clemson’s new research and graduate education programs at its North Charleston, South Carolina, site.

Clemson and UNC Charlotte already collaborate in areas such as electric power. One example is the participation by both universities in the Center for Advanced Power Engineering Research, which also includes North Carolina State University.

“I am pleased to see that Dr. Enslin is remaining in higher education in the Southeast, and I anticipate we will have many opportunities to partner and collaborate with him and his faculty,” said Johnson.

Johnson said he will announce an interim director in several days, and the college will launch a national search for a permanent director.
