Jeff Baker, Dawn Floyd and David Spano have been appointed to the recently established UNC Campus Security Committee.
Comprised of individuals from the University system’s 17 constituent institutions, the UNC Campus Security Committee will advise the president and other members of the UNC system leadership on best policy practices and ways to improve campus safety, in addition to implementing recommendations from campus security initiatives. Committee members include campus safety professionals, students and faculty representatives.
"These three professionals will represent UNC Charlotte well on the UNC Campus Security Committee," said Chancellor Philip L. Dubois. "Their work has helped this campus become a leader in campus safety and security."
Baker, chief of the University’s Police and Public Safety Department, is one of two police chiefs selected to serve on the committee. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2009, Baker served 28 years as a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. A graduate of Gardner-Webb University, he was named 2013’s Campus Safety Director of the Year by Campus Safety Magazine following his noticeable impact as chief of UNC Charlotte’s Police and Public Safety Department.
Floyd is the University’s Title IX coordinator. She earned a law degree at City University of New York School of Law, and prior to joining UNC Charlotte in 2014, she was a senior litigation associate at Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick in Charlotte.
Spano has served as associate vice chancellor for health programs and services and director of the UNC Charlotte Counseling Center since 2003. He completed a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from UNC Chapel Hill and served as a member and the first chair of the University’s Campus Safety and Security Committee.
Members of the UNC Campus Security Committee were nominated by colleagues, University chancellors and other system officials. Their initial terms run through June 30, 2018.
