Music student places first in national competition

UNC Charlotte student Hunter Aldridge won first place in the final round of the Upper College Men Division of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Student Auditions on July 7. Aldridge, a tenor, studies with Brian Arreola, assistant professor of voice and director of the Department of Music opera workshop program.

The National Student Auditions were held at UNC Greensboro as part of the NATS national conference. More than 150 students competed in 12 categories. Aldridge triumphed through five rounds of judging against other male college voice majors his age: state, regional, online national, national semifinals and finals. The concluding round was judged by nationally significant voice teachers and pedagogues. His award included a cash prize.
