UNC Charlotte continues to grow, and it welcomes countless visitors to administrative and academic offices, performances venues and Charlotte 49ers athletics events throughout the year. As part of ongoing efforts to protect the campus community, the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EH&S) recently purchased four automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for campus buildings.
EH&S personnel worked with the Facilities Management Department to install the AEDs in the Foundation, PORTAL and Reese buildings and the Harris Alumni Center. This brings to total number of AEDs on campus to 66.
“Using an allocation from UNC General Administration to assist with campus emergency management initiatives, we were able to purchase the four AEDs,” said Lamont Baldwin, fire and safety life manager with the Environmental Health and Safety Office. “Widespread use of AEDs reduces response times and save lives. When a person has a heart attack or has symptoms of cardiac arrest, the AED analyzes the individual’s heart rhythm and can emit an electrical shock to the heart if needed. Thanks to UNC GA and personnel in the Risk Management, Safety and Security and Facilities Management departments for their assistance to further enhance our safety efforts.”
