UNC Charlotte will hold its 10th annual campus recognition of International Women's Day (IWD) from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 26, in the Student Union, Room 340.
This annual event includes historical information and recognition of faculty, staff and students who have been nominated for their impact on the lives of women locally and globally. Nominations are accepted online through Wednesday, March 11.
Sharon Reed, founder of the Global Girls Project, will be the keynote speaker for the University’s IWD celebration March 26.
With more than 12 years of experience in sustainable global, economic and community development, Reed will share her passion for building bridges of understanding and empowering others to make a positive difference in the world through innovation, connection, communication, collaboration, education and engagement.
Currently, Reed is a UN Women Global Community Champion for Women’s Economic Empowerment and co-architect of EmpowerWomen.org's #iamwoman campaign. She also is a regular blogger on heart-based living and leadership.
International Women’s Day is recognized by the United Nations on March 8 and celebrated in various countries around the world. The UNC Charlotte campus community has celebrated IWD since 2006.
The Office of International Programs and the Multicultural Resource Center are cosponsoring this year’s IWD celebration. The event is open to the campus community.
