Hartley’s ‘Hamlet’ wins Audiobook of the Year

“Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,” a novelization of Shakespeare’s tragedy by Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley and co-author David Hewson, has been named the 2014 Audiobook of the Year.

“Hamlet” was released in audiobook format in May, receiving prominent media attention. Read by British actor Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” film trilogy, “Hamlet” is the second novelization that Hartley and Hewson have created. “Macbeth,” released by Audible in 2011 and read by actor Alan Cumming, was nominated for a 2011 Audie Award. It appeared in print in May 2012.

“Hamlet, Prince of Denmark” is available as an e-book for Kindle. Hartley is the bestselling author of a dozen mystery, thriller and fantasy novels for children and adults, including the Darwen Arkwright series for middle grades readers. His academic books include “The Shakespearean Dramaturg” (2006), “Julius Caesar” (2013), “Shakespeare and Political Theatre” (2013) and “Shakespeare on the University Stage” (2014).
