Business Tax Update                                                                         Tuesday, Dec. 9
8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.                                                                                   
This course covers important federal, state and international developments affecting “C” corporations, “S” corporations, partnerships and exempt organizations. It also covers developments related to employment tax, pension plans, deferred compensation and tax practice in general.

Ethics 101                                                                                           Wednesday, Dec. 10
8:30 to 10:30 a.m.                                                                            
This course will discuss pertinent accountancy law in North Carolina, as well as professional ethical issues and standards. The course is designed to meet the two hours of ethics training CPAs in North Carolina must receive each year in order to meet the North Carolina Board of Examiners requirements for certificate renewal.

Meeting and Event Planning Information Session                          Wednesday, Dec. 10
6 to 7 p.m.                                                                           
This free information session will provide individuals with the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the UNC Charlotte Meeting and Event Planning Certificate. The program is designed for new and aspiring meeting and event managers, travel agents and hoteliers, as well as those considering a career change.

Creating and Maintaining Accountability                                        Wednesday, Dec. 10

This course teaches tools, techniques and applications of ways to create and maintain accountability for employees, organizations and individuals. Participants will have a chance to consider their own performance as an employee and supervisor and practice approaches to ensure accountability.

Scheduling and Tracking Projects Using MS Project 2010               Wednesday, Dec. 10

This course introduces MS Project 2010, which allows one to develop and track a project’s time and cost using the tool. Individuals will receive hands-on training on how to break down a project into manageable components using WBS and then develop and track a project’s time and cost.

Forensic Engineering Update                                                                        Thursday, Dec. 11

This course provides an introduction to the science, methodology and latest engineering principles involved in the diagnosis of common types of accidents and failures. These topics will be useful to technical and non-technical professionals unfamiliar with “forensics” but having an interest in failure investigations. 

The Role Learning and Development Plays in Talent Management           Friday, Dec. 12

This course focuses on key components of talent management with an emphasis on learning and leadership development strategies.  Through leading industry experts and research, this course will highlight how you can build a talent management infrastructure for your organization, or strengthen the program(s) currently in place. 

Marketing Principles for Business Decision Making                                    Friday, Dec. 12

This course introduces basic marketing concepts and terminology. It is built around acquiring a fundamental understanding of the “marketing mix” (decisions around price, product, promotion and distribution) with a brief nod toward consumer buyer behavior and marketing research.

This course reviews new features in Microsoft Office 2013. Participants will learn proficiency with new features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

PivotTables in Microsoft Excel 2013                                                 Friday, Dec. 12

This course introduces Excel users to PivotTables and PivotCharts in Microsoft Excel 2013. Individuals will learn to design a PivotTable from Excel lists and learn to use PivotTable options to extract data many different ways.

This course examines risk monitoring as a plan is executed, the project manager’s efforts in establishing an approach to risk and suitable responses consistent with the risk tolerance level of the stakeholders. 

Going Global: International Operations                                          Monday, Dec. 15

This course is devoted to exploring the decision to take a firm's activities abroad, understanding the motivation to do so and options a firm needs in order to become international in scope. In addition to the management issues related to this decision, the necessary financial reporting and tax considerations will be explored.

Designing and Delivering Live Online Virtual Training Classes       Tuesday, Dec. 16

This course starts with virtual class design, focusing on how to convert in-person classes to virtual ones. Attendees will learn how to translate activities and how to avoid the most common design mistakes.

This course covers important federal and state tax developments affecting individuals, families, employees, investors and those who provide consultation or tax preparation services. Developments covered in this course will include new laws passed by Congress or the state legislature, rulings from the Treasury Department and the IRS and important court cases.

This course explores how implementing process change requires a powerful combination of “soft” and “hard” skills, along with techniques that will win widespread support for process changes and methodologies to execute the solution effectively.

Advanced Excel 2013                                                                         Wednesday, Dec. 17

This course is designed for the experienced Excel user who wants to learn to integrate advanced features and maximize efficiency with Excel workbooks. Participants will build on existing skills to link data among Excel workbooks, create lookup formulas, build Frequency functions, protect formulas, create forms and templates and embed and link data among Office applications.

Web Design and Publishing Information Session                            Wednesday, Dec. 17
6 to 7 p.m.                                                                                        
This information session will provide prospective attendees the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the UNC Charlotte Web Design and Publishing Certificate. The program is designed for individuals seeking the knowledge and expertise to build and maintain their own website, whether for their company or for themselves.

Leading Six Sigma Projects as an Engineer                                       Wednesday, Dec. 17
8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.                                                                          
This course provides persons with the tools and understanding to effectively lead Six Sigma projects. Included in the session will be a framework for managing the following: risk, stakeholders and virtual teams. Coaching green belts and others through the Six Sigma methodology will be discussed, too.

Analyzing and Satisfying Requirements                                           Thursday, Dec. 18

This course presents three proven approaches to analyzing current conditions, business needs and technology enablers.  Business process analysis techniques will be used to convert raw requirements data into the capabilities of the solution. 

Personal Computer, Mobile and Cloud Technology Update          Friday, Dec. 19

This course explores an array of devices, such as desktop systems, laptops and Ultrabooks, tablets and smartphones, to assess their unique strengths and weaknesses. It is important to understand not only the current best use of each device but the ways that these devices are converging and diverging.
