Sustainability Report Outlines Award-Winning Environmental Initiatives

During the past few years, UNC Charlotte has had a lot to celebrate in the sustainability field. In November 2014, the University’s “Zero Waste Initiative” for Jerry Richardson Stadium was named the Wells Fargo Green Award winner at the Charlotte Chamber Energy Summit.

The previous fall, the U.S. Department of Energy selected UNC Charlotte as one of only 20 international university groups to compete in the prestigious Solar Decathlon, designing and building a fully functional energy-efficient home. UNC Charlotte’s Entry, Urban Eden, walked away with the People’s Choice Award, as well as third place for engineering.

While the accolades, grants and initiatives continue, THRIVE represents the first time the University’s sustainability efforts appear in one document. Broken into four “claims,” economic, ecological, regional and social, the report is in a story-based format, highlighting the University’s extraordinary sustainability research and accomplishments.
