Niner Nation rose to the challenge during the 49-hour campaign. The final tally of $265,244 surpassed last year's amount. And the support will make a meaningful impact for future 49ers.

Mirsad Hadžikadić came up short in his bid for the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but he is pleased with his campaign's results.

3. Sweeping soliloquies

Futurist and theoretical physicist Michio Kaku spoke in sweeping soliloquies, providing a peek at the future of technology, robots, space travel, human mortality and the always tantalizing topic of aliens.

4. Free Veterans Day concert

The UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble, joined by the University Chorale and the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band, will present For Heroes Proved: A Veterans Day Concert” at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, at Ovens Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are necessary.

Two compelling lectures are on the horizon. Professor Mary Layton “Mel” Atkinson will discuss: “Why does the American public so often reject policies that seem to offer them exactly what they want?”  The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute welcomes authors James and Deborah Fallows. Their new book chronicles their travels throughout the country visiting small and mid-sized towns.
