The sight of construction and renovations are commonplace on campus. In fact, Chancellor Philip L. Dubois even features orange construction cones as part of his commencement remarks. The campus has grown immensely during the past several decades and shows no signs of stopping.
For the next five years, the campus will experience a heightened level of physical expansion in the campus’ center. The Facilities Management and Financial Services departments have been hard at work on the 5-Year Capital Construction Plan to renew academic core buildings and improve infrastructure for the growing campus. Don’t forget, current enrollment is at an all-time high of nearly 29,000 students and growth could reach 32,000 by 2020.
In the plan, there are more than 40 projects including new construction, academic building renovation and road and utility improvements. You can check out the Capital Plan website for a complete list of projects and schedules; highlights include:

“The work that will occur during the next five years will position the University for the next 25 years,” said Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities management. “To enable the University to continue to fulfill its mission as North Carolina’s urban research institution, UNC Charlotte is investing in building and infrastructure improvements that will better serve our students, faculty and staff and the scholarship and research in which they are engaged.”
