Annual raffles to reward efforts to reduce air pollution

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

The UNC Charlotte Energy and Environmental Assistance Office again is offering incentives to faculty and staff members to help improve Charlotte air quality during the summer ozone season.

Employees who don’t drive during lunch from Monday, June 16, through Friday, Aug. 15, can email the EEAO (eaoforsb@uncc.edu) or Karyn Williamson-Coria (kwill235@uncc.edu) with the location of where they dined on campus for entry in a weekly drawing.

During this same time period, the center will sponsor a monthly drawing to encourage individuals to fill their car gas tanks (with 10 or more gallons) before 7 a.m. or after 6:30 p.m. Employees who do so can send a copy of their receipt, along with their names and University email addresses, via campus mail to the EEAO (Cameron Applied Research Center, Room 239).

University employees also can participate in the statewide “Race to the Beach” being sponsored by N.C. Air Awareness, a public outreach and education program of the N.C. Division of Air Quality. Individuals who choose to “clean commute” to work (carpool, bus, LYNX, walk, bike, telecommute or compressed work days) at least 13 times could win a free beach trip. Register online to participate and log clean commutes. Racers must complete clean commutes before Friday, Aug. 29, to be eligible for the grand prize – a free beach vacation at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach.
