A performance by the Faculty Brass Quintet will open the Music Department’s 2013-14 Faculty & Friends Concert Series; the event is set for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts Belk Theater.
John David Smith, Charles Stone Distinguished Professor of History, is one of five finalists for the 2013 Bank of America (BofA) Award for Teaching Excellence – the University’s top teaching honor. The recipient of this year’s award will be announced during a Sept. 20 reception; Inside UNC Charlotte is featuring each finalist in alphabetical order prior to the reception.
UNC Charlotte will host the 2013 Health Informatics Career and Internship Fair, which is part of a statewide collaboration between universities in North Carolina including Duke, ECU, NCCU, UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Charlotte. Steven Rogelberg has been appointed the inaugural University Professor of UNC Charlotte. The title recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement in a professional field as well as demonstrated ability to excel at interdisciplinary research, teaching and service. The University Professor is recommended to the Board of Trustees by the chancellor and holds this title for life.

Jamie Franki, associate chair of the Department of Art + Art History in the College of Arts + Architecture, designed the medal for the new Heath Literary Award. The Numismatist Magazine and the American Numismatic Association (ANA) created the award to celebrate the 1891 founding of the ANA by George Heath.
