The Lona-Frey Collection, representing 43 works by some of the most important American artists of the 20th century, will open to the public on Saturday, Aug. 4, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
The UNC Charlotte Solar Decathlon team will present its solar house design to the public at 4:00 PM, Monday, Sept. 17, at UNC Charlotte Center City. The design is for the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, an international competition that will be in Irvine, Calif., in October 2013.
Effective Tuesday, Aug. 21, Jeanette Sims will be director of community affairs in the Division of University Advancement.
Her primary responsibility will be to direct programs and initiatives in support of UNC Charlotte’s mission as it strives to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the greater Charlotte region.

Malin Pereira, professor of English and recent department chair, is now executive director of the Honors College.

Visitors to UNC Charlotte’s Robinson Hall for the Performing Arts are greeted with a new mural that “brings color, rhythm and a celebration of performance” to the building, according to officials with the College of Arts + Architecture.
Tony Zeiss, president of Central Piedmont Community College, is the 2012 recipient of the UNC Charlotte Distinguished Service Award. He was honored for his contributions to the community and as a leader in education, in particular his efforts to strengthen the ties between Central Piedmont Community College and UNC Charlotte.
Effective Aug. 1, Claire Kirby is director of undergraduate admissions. During her seven-year tenure at the University, Kirby has earned progressive promotions since starting as an assistant director of admissions. Most recently, she served as interim director of admissions.
David Goldfield, the Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History, has been named a founding member of the Ambassadors Circle for the International Coalition Sites of Conscience (ICSC).
Trent Barnes was hired recently as the associate director and stadium complex manager in the Department of Student Activity Center and Recreational Facilities.
The University’s North Deck received an award of merit for its design and functionality in the 2012 International Parking Institute Awards of Excellence competition.
