Students at UNC Charlotte are partnering with students in Russia to promote healthy living, through a collaboration created by program director Yuliya Baldwin and funded by the U.S. Department of State.

The Campus Accessibility Advisory Committee, a 15-member group appointed by the chancellor, recently recommended that students be able to use any gender restroom on campus to which they self-identify.

Researchers from EPIC’s Duke Energy Smart Grid Laboratory working with Waverley Labs conducted a systematic analysis of risks and threats to power transmission systems to identify critical points of failure.

Internship Week is set for Monday, Feb. 2, through Friday, Feb. 6, and the University Career Center will host a week of programs and events to encourage students to gain relevant experience, to prepare them for the internship search and to connect them directly to potential employers.

J. Scott Derrick, executive director of the Student Union and Cone University Center, is president-elect for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI); he will be installed formally in April at the organization’s annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Judy Rose, the University’s director of athletics, is among the first members appointed by the NCAA Board of Directors to the Division I Council, which is the newest level of leadership in Division I.  She is one of 27 athletic directors named to the 40-person council, which holds its first meetings today in Washington, D.C.

The Charlotte-based LGBT arts, entertainment and news publication qnotes recently named Josh Burford, assistant director for sexual and gender diversity in the Multicultural Resource Center, as its “2014 Person of the Year.”

“Violins of Hope,” authored by Department of Music Chair James Grymes, has earned a National Jewish Book Award, considered the most prestigious honor in the country for Jewish-themed books.

“Accumulations,” an exhibit featuring work by UNC Charlotte alumna Carmen Neely, will be displayed through Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the Student Union Art Gallery. A free reception with the artist will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16.

Three scholarships, worth up to $8,200, are available for selected individuals to attend the highly regarded Leadership Development Program offered by the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro.

Duke Centennial Hall provides state-of-the-art teaching facilities and research laboratories for one of the most highly regarded engineering colleges in the Southeastern United States.

UNC Charlotte’s impressive public artwork collection has increased with the installation of “Aperture” near Hechenbleikner Lake. The new piece is a steel sculpture that is mounted on a bearing, which can be rotated to present different views. It is the creation of artist John Medwedeff. Longtime University benefactor Ike Belk commissioned the work.
