The Charlotte Teachers Institute has received a $50,000 gift from the Wells Fargo Foundation to support the institute’s work in strengthening teaching in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).
“Heroes and Villains: Silver Age Comics” is an online display of rare and culturally significant comic books from the J. Murrey Atkins Library Special Collections.
The Student Union has a “Dirty Little Secret,” and it is on public display through Thursday, Sept. 20, in its art gallery.
The exhibit features works by artist Janice Mueller. A free, public reception with the artist will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Student Union Art Gallery.

The Lona-Frey Collection, representing 43 works by some of the most important American artists of the 20th century, will open to the public on Saturday, Aug. 4, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
The UNC Charlotte Solar Decathlon team will present its solar house design to the public at 4:00 PM, Monday, Sept. 17, at UNC Charlotte Center City. The design is for the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, an international competition that will be in Irvine, Calif., in October 2013.
Effective Tuesday, Aug. 21, Jeanette Sims will be director of community affairs in the Division of University Advancement.
Her primary responsibility will be to direct programs and initiatives in support of UNC Charlotte’s mission as it strives to address the cultural, economic, educational, environmental, health and social needs of the greater Charlotte region.
