Paul Hemphill ’72 played a significant role in advocating for the Black community on campus.

In 1969, protests were taking place against the draft and the Vietnam War, for racial justice and for progressive tolerance in society. Paul Hemphill ’72 had just transferred to UNC Charlotte, where he would go on to play a significant role in advocating for the Black community on campus.
