Congressman Patrick McHenry (10th District) and Congressional District Director and former UNC Charlotte Alumni Association President Brett Keeter (’99) recently visited campus to learn more about UNC Charlotte’s Data Science and Business Analytics initiative.
In addition to meetings with Chancellor Philip L. Dubois and Bob Wilhelm, vice chancellor for economic development and research, McHenry and Keeter observed several project demonstrations related to Big Data at the University’s Charlotte Visualization Center.
McHenry, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, is chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, which oversees the Federal Reserve, Treasury Department, Securities and Exchange Commission and a number of other regulatory agencies.
McHenry was interested in learning more about the University’s Data Science and Business Analytics Program (DSBA), and how this initiative could have implications for the work of the Financial Services Committee and the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
The DSBA is an industry-university-state partnership led by UNC Charlotte’s College of Computing and Informatics and the Belk College of Business, with strategic input from the College of Health and Human Services and other academic departments.
This initiative is designed to broaden and deepen North Carolina's business analytics talent and stimulate strategic innovation, and it will support high-end job creation and business investment in the Charlotte region and across the state by providing intellectual capital, academic programs and outreach activities to meet the needs of employers in the new data-driven.
