Construction Update


Several exciting construction projects are underway across campus that will have huge impact. Note that construction can change pedestrian, bike and vehicle routes, and create additional activity on and around campus. Get all the details below.

 

 



Belk Plaza Revitalization

Progress is underway on Belk Plaza. The concrete fountain structure is complete, and stone veneer masonry has begun. Construction continues with sidewalk paver installation, grading for the lawn area and masonry work on the seat walls. Located on the historic core of campus, Belk Plaza will take its place at the start of the 2018-19 academic year as the center of campus life, offering a natural gathering spot with outdoor seating and a performance area.

Admissions and Visitors Center

As you drive past the main University entrance near South Village, you’ll see the first segments of our new Admissions and Visitors Center. The Admissions and Visitors Center will be a welcoming hub for guests and prospective students and serve as a starting point for campus tours. The building’s foundation is complete and structural steel framing and installation of site utilities will continue in the coming days.

University Recreation Center

Students and other campus community members will benefit from the health and wellness features of the state-of-the-art University Recreation Center making visible progress on Craver Road. The 160,000-square-foot facility will include aerobic and weight training rooms, locker rooms, student meeting areas and space for intramural sports and recreational programs. Construction on the structural steel frame, concrete floor slabs and electrical and plumbing rough-in work continues. The third-floor concrete slab should be finished in July.

Scott Hall Renovation

Renovations to Scott Hall, built in 1969, include updates to its mechanical, electrical, information technology and plumbing systems, as well as window and roof replacements and ADA modifications. Exterior masonry, window installation, interior wall framing and drywall installation are now complete. Construction started on interior and exterior painting and ceiling, lighting and flooring installations - and recently began on door installations, sidewalks and landscape preparation.
