Alumni Adventures

It’s remarkable to see what divergent opportunities lie ahead for UNC Charlotte alums, from solving energy needs for the needy, to taking runs down the bobsled track at the Winter Olympics, to garnering national attention for art and design.

Check out these remarkable young alums in action:

Take DeAndrea Salvador (right), who graduated in 2013 with a degree in economics. Recently named to the 2018 TED Fellows class, her latest career move is founder of the Renewable Energy Transition Initiative (RETI). RETI aims to sustainably lower the energy costs of low-income families. The organization readies children, teens and adults for the adoption of clean energy technologies, such as the installation of solar panels on their homes.

Briauna Jones Former Charlotte 49ers track and field star Briauna Jones '14 (left) is in South Korea as a member of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Bobsled Team. Jones, who earned her bachelor's degree in anthropology, was picked as an alternate, which means she can substitute for competing athletes during training runs. She also is eligible to compete in the event of an injury or illness.
Amanda Oleander (right) is a 2013 graduate who credits UNC Charlotte with giving her the savvy to pursue her passion as a career. Oleander has used illustrative expertise at E! Entertainment, her social media skills to become Periscope’s first and “most loved” star and even dabbled in creating wearable-art couture for the runway using recycled materials. She also paints and draws moments from every day life and was recently featured in Business Insider for her unique perspective.  Amanda Oleander
