Annual Staff Council Fall Festival set for Oct. 7

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Food, contests, fun and games are on tap for the annual Staff Council Fall Festival, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

The festival is a free event; however, staff members should bring their UNC Charlotte ID for the BBQ luncheon.

Employees can compete to win prizes in the Fall Festival Bake-off and Photography contests; winners will be announced at noon. Rules and entry forms are on the Staff Council website; the deadline to register is Thursday, Oct. 2.

Organizers plan to play bingo, a bean bag toss, 49er Post-it darts and flip-a-chick and hold a cake walk during the festival, too. DJ Lamb will provide music, along with one-man-band Clyde Derberry from facilities management.

Each year, the Staff Council selects an area nonprofit organization to support; the 2014 beneficiary is A Child’s Place, which works to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education, according to its website

A Child’s Place clients need toiletry items (lotions, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, body wash, shampoo/conditioner) and clothing (child size 5 to adult), such as winter coats and sweaters/sweatshirts. (Only new items). Festival attendees are encouraged to bring a donation Oct. 7 to be entered into a prize drawing.

“We hope to see a big crowd at this year’s Fall Festival,” said Jim Kay, Staff Council chair. “It’s a great community-building event and a chance for UNC Charlotte staff members from across campus to get together for free food and to show off their culinary or creative skills in the baking and photo contests. Plus, we’re displaying our Giving Green spirit in support of a worthwhile charity.”

The UNC Charlotte Staff Council is the mechanism whereby staff can provide input on issues involving the University and campus community. The chancellor delegated the council the authority and responsibility to bring to the attention of the administration matters of general staff concern and to take such actions as are necessary to enable it to meet those responsibilities.
