Three dance and theatre professors from London’s Kingston University will visit UNC Charlotte to collaborate on a planned student theatrical production. They will be working with Maryrica Lottman, associate professor of Spanish.

The College of Education’s annual Bob Barret Distinguished Lecture on Multicultural Issues in Counseling will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Cone University Center, Room 210, and on Friday, Oct. 25, the Counseling Department will sponsor the conference “Multicultural Perspectives on Counseling.”

Dean Kruckeberg, professor of communication studies, is the 2013 recipient of the Atlas Award for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations. He will be presented the honor formally by the 21,000-member Public Relations Society of America at the general session of its international conference in Philadelphia, Monday, Oct. 28.

The UNC Charlotte Mediation Team won four awards at the regional Mediation Tournament held in Gainesville, Ga., earlier this month. The team competed against challengers from 10 other institutions, including Western Carolina University and Georgia Southern University.

Rachel Plotnick, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies, has received the IEEE Life Members’ Prize in Electrical History – a top national honor.

Rowe and Storrs galleries will both hold receptions and artist talks for concurrent exhibitions on Wednesday, Oct. 30.  

The UNC Charlotte Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter needs volunteers to finalize “The House the 49ers Built.” During Homecoming, the chapter conducted the on-campus portion of the build, after a successful fundraising campaign. The house is now at its permanent location, 1312 Onyx Road, Charlotte, 28216.

Michael Lizotte is the University sustainability officer, which is part of the Facilities Management Department in the Division for Business Affairs.

The Sheldon Phelps Smith Building honors an individual whose foresight helped to chart UNC Charlotte’s educational course.

Master’s student Khalia Braswell made the most of an invitation from a friend to participate in the 2013 Focus 100 Global Mobile Hackathon – she turned it into a winning effort. Braswell, pursing a graduate degree in the College of Computing and Informatics Department of Software and Information Systems, was invited by a friend who attends Clemson University to join her team.

The UNC Charlotte Department of Theatre will perform “Love the Doctor,” a comedic play by the Spanish Golden Age playwright Tirso de Molina starting Wednesday, Oct. 30.
