University to test emergency alert systems Oct. 9

UNC Charlotte will test its emergency alert systems between 2 and 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9. These systems include the three sirens located at Atkins Library, between EPIC and Grigg Hall and behind the Facilities Management/Police and Public Safety Building and “active crawl” software activated by PIER.

Siemens Scholarship winners announced

Kohn, Lecomte named 2012 Employees of the Year

Giving Green Campaign kicks off with luncheon and agency fair

McEntire, associate provost for enrollment management, talked about how the Arts & Science Council (ASC) supported local cultural/artistic nonprofits, such as the Choir School.

ITS team wins annual Faculty/Staff Golf Tournament

John Blas, Tony Honeycutt and Chad Lenox, current members of the Information Technology Services Office, teamed with retired ITS employee Dale Crook to card a 61, the winning score in UNC Charlotte’s annual Faculty/Staff Golf Tournament, held recently at the Tradition Golf Club, located off Prosperity Church Road.

‘Without Sanctuary’ conference to explore lynching

UNC Charlotte’s Center for the Study of the New South on will host “Without Sanctuary: A Conference on Lynching and the American South” Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 11-13. This event is in conjunction with the Levine Museum of the New South and its exhibit of photographs, postcards and narrative that explores one of the most horrific chapters of history.

Jaus named a finalist for University’s top teaching award

College of Education professor Hal Jaus is the third of five finalists for the 2012 Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence to be profiled in Inside UNC Charlotte. The recipient of the honor, UNC Charlotte’s top teaching award, will be named at a special reception, Friday, Oct. 19. The other finalists will be featured in alphabetical order in the weeks prior to the reception.

UNC Charlotte marks Cyber Security Awareness Month

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx has proclaimed October “UNC Charlotte Cyber Security Awareness Month.”  This declaration comes as UNC Charlotte’s College of Computing and Informatics hosts its 13th Annual Cyber Security Symposium on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
