Faculty author and national expert on election administration Martha Kropf will discuss how the 2000 election continues to affect policymakers nearly 15 years later in the final installment of the 2013-14 Personally Speaking Lecture Series. This free, public talk is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at UNC Charlotte Center City. A reception will follow.

Inclement weather canceled the original date for the 49er B-ball Challenge, but on Wednesday, March 12, UNC Charlotte students will try to stake their claim as victors in this year’s contest. Of course, the faculty/staff team could extend its winning streak to four consecutive games.
Coming off its inaugural season in 2013, the Charlotte 49ers football team will begin spring 2014 practice Tuesday, March 11.
The 49ers will practice for four weeks and will conclude with the annual Spring Game at noon, Saturday, April 5.
The Alumni Association will host an elegant evening for a good cause at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 4. The Green Tie Gala will benefit the need-based scholarships named in honor of Gregory Davis (’76). The event takes place at Reel Works Studios at the N.C. Music Factory. Tickets are $75 per person.
Golfers will tee off for a good cause at the “On the Green” tournament, which has a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, April 25, at the Rocky River Golf Club in Concord.
All proceeds from this annual event support the P.J. Briggs Scholarship fund. Registration for the tournament is limited to 144 spots and is open through Wednesday, April 16.

A UNC Charlotte English graduate will explore the connection between a liberal arts education and her election as the first African American mayor of Asheville during the keynote talk of English Major Days.
Charlotte 49ers head football coach Brad Lambert has promoted Johnson Richardson to assistant coach. Richardson, who served as an offensive intern last year, will maintain his role as tight ends coach. Lambert also announced the addition of Aaron Curry to the coaching staff.
