Lee College to host reception for two retiring employees

A retirement reception in honor of Chrystal Lilly-Gibbs and Toby Rufty, members of the Lee College of Engineering, will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.

Gibbs has been with the University more than 26 years, predominantly as the executive assistant for the dean; Rufty’s 20-year tenure has been as a contracts and grants officer.


Master’s program in real estate announces full-tuition scholarships

The University’s Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) program will offer six full-tuition scholarships to students beginning in the 2013-14 academic year.

The scholarships, which have a value in excess of $20,000 each during the course of the program, are named in honor of three real estate industry leaders with close ties to the University:


Communication studies chair receives national service award

Shawn Long, chair of the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, is the 2012 recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the African American Communication and Culture Division and the Black Caucus of the National Communication Association.


Conceptual artist Mel Chin to speak

Award-winning conceptual artist Mel Chin, currently an artist-in-residence at McColl Center for Visual Art, will speak at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. His talk “For a Few  Dollars More” will address a variety of recent works and the value and intentions behind them.


49ers to host NCAA basketball tournament in 2015

The NCAA has announced that Charlotte and host Charlotte 49ers will be the site for the second and third rounds of the 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The games are slated for Friday and Sunday, March 20-22, 2015, at Time Warner Cable Arena.

'Race to the Beach' participants increased awareness of clean air challenges

Turner Construction to win award for EPIC

Turner Construction Company will receive an Eagle Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Carolinas chapter, for its work on the Energy Production Infrastructure Center (EPIC).

The Eagle Award, being presented Thursday, Nov. 15, is in the category of school construction of more than $50 million.


University builds regional support in Cabarrus County

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois delivered the keynote address at the Cabarrus Chamber State of the Region meeting held in Concord Tuesday.

In this presentation, Dubois talked about how Cabarrus County’s and UNC Charlotte’s future are linked and that both have bright outlooks.
