Women’s basketball player earns national recognition

Charlotte’s Octavia Jett-Wilson was named as the Feb. 16 ESPN.com National Player of the Week. She is the first player in school history to earn the honor. The senior guard also was named to the Feb. 17 NCAA Starting Five after record-breaking performances in the two games against Old Dominion last week.

Additionally, she was Conference USA co-Player of the Week and earned College Sports Madness’ High Major National Player of the Week.

Jett-Wilson is on the receiving end of all of these awards after her spectacular two-game series against Old Dominion, leading Charlotte to a double-overtime triumph in Norfolk Feb. 10 before completing the sweep with a single-overtime victory back inside Halton Arena Feb. 13.

She scored a combined 76 points, the most by any 49ers individual in consecutive games in school history, crossing the 1,000-point mark in the process, and she finished the week with 22 rebounds, nine assists, six steals in 89 minutes between the two
