Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber addresses the Rotary Club of Charlotte

Thursday, January 28, 2021

On Tuesday, Jan. 26, Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber addressed the Rotary Club of Charlotte at its weekly meeting. Since Gaber arrived last summer to lead UNC Charlotte, she has made a priority of visiting the Queen City’s business and civic organizations to introduce herself and outline the impact of the University on the community and extend an invitation for collaboration.

Some of the points Gaber covered in her presentation were:

  • She is impressed by the city of Charlotte’s response to its need to improve social mobility and is eager for the University to contribute to continued improvement
  • UNC Charlotte is committed to academic excellence, accessibility and affordability
  • Collaboration with business leaders leads to new academic programs that address workforce needs, such as a master’s degree in computer engineering and bachelor’s degree programs in data science as well as writing, rhetoric and digital studies.
  • The part-time MBA program is nationally ranked and the University remains the region’s main source of continuing education in technology, business, healthcare and education
  • University research is robust and applicable to community needs, such as wastewater testing to detect COVID-19 and mitigate its spread, an effort that is supported by a $9 million state appropriation, the single-largest such state appropriation in University history

The Rotary Club of Charlotte disseminated a complete summary of Gaber’s presentation to its membership.
