Niners serving in posts statewide and nationally

A record number of UNC Charlotte alumni are serving in elected posts statewide and nationally. Former student body president Richard Hudson ’96 serves in the U.S. Congress, 14 alumni are serving in the N.C. General Assembly and two have seats on the N.C. Court of Appeals. 

Several Niners serving in the N.C. General Assembly recently have taken on new leadership positions. 

Senate leadership

  • Education/Higher Education members: Dave Craven ‘12, Vickie Sawyer ’97 and Joyce Waddell ‘73
  • Appropriations on Education members: Dave Craven ’12 and Ted Alexander ‘82
  • Base Budget members: Ted Alexander ‘82, Mujtaba Mohammed ’08 and Vickie Sawyer ‘97

House leadership

  • Appropriations, Capital chair: Kelly Hastings ‘09

Legislative Priorities 2021

UNC Charlotte has three important legislative priorities for 2021.

  • Funding for UNC Charlotte’s enrollment growth is our number one priority again this year.  
  • Start-up funding for the Connect NC Bond Science Building.
  • Salary increases for faculty, staff and students.
