Theatre Department presents podcast ‘The Corona Caesar’
Thursday, November 5, 2020

Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley is directing the Department of Theatre production of “Julius Caesar.” Adapted for the present day, “The Corona Caesar” will be released as a five-episode podcast, beginning Nov. 14

Imagine a time of political unrest, when a nation ravaged by disease and by the quarantine protocols enforced to contain it, teeters on the brink of collapse. Imagine the rise of a dictator who sees the discontent around him as an opportunity to extend his power, moving from politician to king …

This is the core idea of a radical and innovative approach to Shakespeare’s electrifying story of ambition, conspiracy and its tragic aftermath, a production constructed entirely online and edited for audio.

“The Corona Caesar” is a show that embraces the restrictions of the present to make an old play fresh, compelling and urgently contemporary. Get FREE tickets to the podcast.

The first episode, “Unrest,” will be available Nov. 14; here is the schedule for the remaining podcasts:

  • Episode 2, “Conspiracy,” Nov. 16
  • Episode 3, “Assassination,” Nov. 18
  • Episode 4, “Aftermath,” Nov. 20
  • Episode 5, “Consequences,” Nov.22
