Open Enrollment for 2021 plan year is underway

Tuesday, October 20, 2020

UNC Charlotte employees who are eligible for insurance benefits have until Saturday, Oct. 31, to make State Health Plan and NCFlex benefits elections for the 2021 plan year. This year’s enrollment period, which began on Thursday, Oct. 15, is shorter than usual and earlier than last year.

A few highlights:

  • Employee state health insurance premiums have remained the same
  • Dental plan premiums have decreased
  • For individuals enrolled for health coverage under the State Health Plan, they and their eligible dependents will be automatically enrolled in the 70/30 Plan for 2021. To enroll in the 80/20 Plan, employees must actively enroll during Open Enrollment
  • To reduce your premium under the 70/30 Plan or 80/20 Plan, you MUST complete the tobacco attestation by Oct. 31, 2020. If you attest you are a tobacco user and agree to visit a CVS MinuteClinic or Primary Care Provider to satisfy your credit, you must fulfill that visit by Nov. 30, 2020, and follow the instructions. • The Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) require re-enrollment every year; employees who want to participate in either or both of the FSAs must make their election during Open Enrollment to participate in 2021
  • Employees who aren’t currently enrolled in vision coverage can enroll in the Core Vision Plan at no cost. This coverage provides a wellness exam for $20 plus discounts on materials

The UNC Charlotte Benefits Office encourages eligible employees to think about their health needs and goals for the next year, review the benefits materials and make their elections online for both the State Health Plan and NCFlex benefits before Oct. 31. With the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person enrollment assistance may be limited and customer service response times may be longer.

Employees who are ready to complete enrollment should log into eBenefts to make their elections. For more information and additional resources, visit the Human Resources Open Enrollment webpage.
