The Center for Graduate Life (CGL) is among the recipients of a Career Guidance for Trainees grant from Burroughs Wellcome Fund.
Jill Huerta, CGL executive director, and Aura Young, assistant director of professional development and doctoral support, received the grant to launch a STEM Communication Fellowship Program within the center.
Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) is a nonprofit organization that supports research and training in the biomedical sciences. The Career Guidance for Trainees grant provides $30,000 to $50,000 in funding for programs that prepare doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars to transition to successful careers within and outside of academia. Seven grants are awarded each year through a highly competitive process. Huerta and Young’s proposal received the full amount they requested, nearly $50,000.
The STEM Communication Fellowship Program will create a cohort of eight fellows who will represent multiple programs and disciplines. The fellows will receive intense communication training and experiential learning opportunities and a $3,000 stipend for the 2020-21 academic year. Fellows will be chosen through a competitive application process at the start of the fall semester.
