On Friday, Oct. 25, several thousand fans packed Halton arena as the Charlotte 49ers hosted the Georgia Bulldogs in a benefit exhibition basketball game. Proceeds from the game went to the April 30th Remembrance Fund, managed by the UNC Charlotte Foundation. The fund was created to support memorial efforts in response to the shooting on campus that took the lives of two students and injured four others.

To mark the event’s significance, the first 2,000 fans received “We Are All Niners” T-shirts. During the game, attendees heard from members of the Niner Nation Remembrance Commission, charged with thoughtfully and compassionately leading a comprehensive process to determine how to best memorialize the victims and remember the tragedy that occurred on April 30, a day that will forever be part of UNC Charlotte’s history.
