UNC Charlotte’s Graduate School is offering a new certificate program aimed at helping recent undergraduate students, graduate students and young professionals to polish their workplace skills.
“The Graduate Certificate in Workplace Competencies will provide our graduate students with a competitive advantage in the job market,” said Tom Reynolds, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School. “It will enable them to demonstrate not only their professional knowledge but their people skills as well.”
This new certificate program is 12 credit hours, with six hours of core courses and six in electives. Core courses include Intrapreneurship for Non-Business Majors, Data Analysis and Presentation and a Career Lab on Developing Core Career Competencies. Electives include a variety of communication, negotiation and innovation courses designed for students across all disciplines to enhance fundamental professional skills such as written and verbal communication, presentation-building, managing new initiatives and working in diverse teams.
In developing the Graduate Certificate in Workplace Competencies, the Graduate School worked with members of its external advisory board and the University Career Center to determine skills employers valued broadly.
