Tickets on sale for Butterfly Affair fundraiser

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

The fourth annual Butterfly Affair: An Evening to Support the UNC Charlotte Collegiate Recovery Community is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27.

This fundraiser, being presented by Mako Medical, was created to aid the efforts of the Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), a University program housed in the Center for Wellness Promotion that supports students who are recovering from substance use disorders. The event includes dinner and dessert, as well as a formal program that recognizes accomplishments of the CRC, including honoring recent CRC graduates and scholarship recipients.

Silent and live auction will feature such items as: golf with the chancellor, Panthers tickets, Disney tickets and much more. Proceeds from the Butterfly Affair support the continued delivery of CRC programs and services, as well as the CRC Scholarship Program, which helps support educational expenses for CRC student awardees who exhibit commitment to recovery and academic success.

Ramona Holloway from 107.9 the Link radio station will be the evening’s auctioneer. Holloway is the 2009, 2010 and 2011 winner of the Alliance for Women in Media’s Gracie Award for radio comedy. She is a co-host on “The Matt and Ramona Show,” which originated in WLNK’s studios in Charlotte in 2001. She also founded the Teen Leadership Club, an organization that gives young adults an opportunity to address the issues and concerns of their generation on the air while exploring careers in radio.

Andrew Long, CRC alumnus and a current graduate student at UNC Charlotte, will emcee.  He has been involved professionally for several years in the field of recovery and uses his personal story to support and advocate for recovery efforts in North Carolina and beyond.

The event is open to all faculty, staff, students and members of the Charlotte community.

Dress code for the event is semiformal. Tickets can be purchased on the Center for Wellness Promotion website.
