The Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) will host a public reception to share research by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) teachers and stories from those who participated in the 2019 Civil Rights/Racial Equity trip. This reception, which includes a poster presentation, is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, at Johnson C. Smith University’s STEM Hall/New Science Building.
During the summer, seven CMS teachers conducted research in five university research laboratories led by faculty members from UNC Charlotte, Queens University and Johnson C. Smith. Konstantinos Falaggis, assistant professor, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science, and David Wilson, a professor in the College of Computing and Informatics, participated from UNC Charlotte.
Also, the 28 teachers who journeyed to historic civil rights sites and museums in Montgomery, Selma and Birmingham, Alabama, and Jackson, Mississippi, as part of the 2019 Civil Rights/Racial Equity trip will discuss their experiences. Retired CMS history teacher and CTI Fellow Larry Bosc led this summer excursion, which was sponsored by CTI and the CMS Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
