Alexander Gordon, 72, an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, died May 13 at Rush Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Gordon earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from Moscow Institute of Electronic Machine Building in 1988. He joined the University as an assistant professor in 2006 and was promoted to associate professor in 2012. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, he worked in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at University of Rochester from 2002 to 2006, first as an analyst/programmer lead and later as an assistant professor.
Yuanan Diao, chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, said, “Dr. Gordon was a devoted educator, an active researcher, a great mathematician and a wonderful colleague, he will be missed by his colleagues and students.
