The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) recently recognized the success of UNC Charlotte faculty members who received official Quality Matters (QM) Course Certification.
Provost Joan Lorden expressed appreciation for faculty members’ “significant work” with regard to quality matters course design. She noted that their engagement in scholarship of teaching and learning inquiry around sound course design is having a positive impact on student success.
UNC Charlotte has 36 courses officially certified, out of a total of 65 courses for the entire UNC System. The University’s Instructional Systems and Technology program has two areas officially certified at the program level. Only five institutions in the national QM community can match this achievement.
During the CTL event, several of UNC Charlotte’s QM faculty members offered poster presentations that outlined course design best practices, showcased high-quality online courses developed to QM standards and communicated research on online teaching and learning.

QM faculty fellows and associate faculty fellows also were recognized for their service and leadership.
“The work of our faculty to develop QM courses and to serve as QM fellows is a testament to our faculty's dedication to students' learning,” said Lorden.
Quality Matters is a nationally-recognized faculty-led approach to quality online and blended learning design. UNC Charlotte has been growing its Quality Matters community for several years.
