Imdat Ozen, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, will discuss “The Rise of Populism in Europe” as the final speaker of the 2019 Great Decisions Lecture Series. This free, public presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at Charlotte Country Day School.
Ozen’s teaching and research interests are in public policy and comparative politics with particular interests in the politics of the European Union (EU), European politics and Turkish politics. His Ph.D. dissertation measured the impact of the EU’s decisions on trust-based, nationalism-based and religion-based Euro-skepticism, as well as Euro-skepticism in general, by conducting content analysis of statements made by some elite members of two peripheral Turkish religious and nationalist parties, the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi, SP) and Nationalist Action Party (Milliyetci Hareket Partisi, MHP).
He earned a Ph.D. degree in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007, where he lectured and worked as an international student advisor at the Office of International Education. Ozen has taught at Washington University in St. Louis, Webster University and Lindenwood University. He joined UNC Charlotte’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration in 2015. He teaches European Government and Politics, Comparative Politics, U.S. Government, Middle East Politics, Politics of the European Union, Issues in World Politics, Benefits and Challenges of Globalization and Research Methods in the Social Sciences.
The Office of International Programs coordinates the annual Great Decisions Lecture Series for the Charlotte community to discuss foreign policy issues selected as pressing by the Foreign Policy Association.
