Rugby players earn All American honors

Four members of UNC Charlotte’s 2018 national championship Men’s Rugby Club team recently were named honorary Men’s Collegiate All Americans Sevens recipients.

Rugby players earn All American honorsMichael Basnett, a senior biology major from Cape Town, South Africa, and Tyrek Huntley, a rising junior kinesiology major from Monroe, North Carolina, were named first team All American for USA College Rugby Division 2 Sevens, (a style of rugby that features seven players).

Matthew Plott, a rising senior from Monroe, North Carolina, majoring in construction management, and Ryan Johns, a senior from Concord, North Carolina, who is majoring in exercise science, were second team All Americans.

In May, UNC Charlotte won the national championship for Men’s Division 2 College Sevens. The team defeated the reigning champs University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
