Twitter and Facebook are popular social media tools for communication, and for researchers in the College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) Charlotte Visualization Center, they are providing key insights into consumer behavior.

UNC Charlotte is the first nonprofit recipient of the Belk Innovation in Diversity Award, presented by the Charlotte Chamber and Belk Inc. The University was acknowledged at the chamber’s annual meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Scott Hippensteel, Matthew Eastin and William Garcia, faculty members in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, published the lead article in GSA Today; the journal is sent to the Geological Society of America’s 25,000-plus membership.

Commencement brings to mind the culmination of one’s academic journey—it also marks a beginning. It is the start of that next chapter, either undertaking advanced studies or entering the workforce. In either case, it is a cause for celebration.

The Ida and William Friday Building houses the Belk College of Business, and it honors the many contributions of William C. Friday to the University of North Carolina system.

The UNC Charlotte Chorale and Chamber Orchestra join forces to present “Concierto España!” - a celebration of the music of Spain. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Robinson Hall’s Belk Theater.

“Work Life Balance” is the topic of a lunch-and-learn program scheduled for noon, Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Student Union, Room 200.

As part of the recent campus celebration of International Education Week, the Mu chapter of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars held its 26th annual meeting and member induction ceremony. Forty new faculty, staff and student members were inducted, and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte received a 2013 honorary membership.

University alumna Chee Ia Yang was selected for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ (NASPA) Graduate Associate Program (GAP), a council of graduate students whose career ambitions align with the student affairs profession.

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to assist with the “Late Night Breakfast,” an annual event for UNC Charlotte students. Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and Chartwells, this  de-stressing event  will be from 10 p.m. to midnight, Wednesday, Dec. 4, in the Residence Dining Hall (RDH).

More than 50 homeless individuals normally served through the Urban Ministry Center (UMC) were fed recently during the second annual potluck luncheon hosted by UNC Charlotte Center City.
