Ten exemplary students were acknowledged during the annual Honors and Awards Program held Monday, April 14, in the Student Union. The ceremony recognized students’ outstanding achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
The UNC General Administration is accepting entries for its inaugural “Picture This: UNC Research Photo Contest.”
This amateur photography competition is open to all graduate students enrolled at any UNC system campus. Entries will be accepted through Friday, May. 9.
Jerry Mann, executive director of the Student Union and Cone University Center, was given the Honorary Membership Award from the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) at the organization’s recent conference.
After months of planning, organizers of Sunday’s UNC Charlotte Science and Technology Expo were able to witness the results of their work. More than 5,000 people filled the plaza in front of the Student Union to explore the 100-plus activities for the science-curious of all ages.

Recovery from alcohol and other substance addictions is the subject of documentary “The Anonymous People,” which will be shown at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, in the Cone University Center, McKnight Hall.
This event, sponsored by the University’s Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC), is free and open to the public. A discussion will follow the film.
The event featuring “Scandel” inspiration Judy Smith, scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Organizers do not plan to reschedule this presentation.
The Office of International Programs will host a screening of the documentary “Without a Fight” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at UNC Charlotte Center City.
Meg Whalen, director of communications and external relations for the College of Arts + Architecture, will interview David Walters, professor of architecture and founder of the Urban Design program. Beyond discussing the program, they will talk about work urban design students are producing in the Charlotte area.
